Friday was a special night for Katie as she was inducted into Mount Mercy’s Hall of Fame for cross country and track.
Here is the write-up for my deserving friend from Mount Mercy’s website:
Gaffney, a native of Manchester, Iowa, had a four-year career in women’s cross country and women’s track & field at Mount Mercy. She was a three-time academic all-conference selection in both sports (2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08). In cross country, Gaffney was a three-time NAIA individual national qualifier (2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08) and three-time NAIA all-Region VII standout (2004-05, 2006-07, 2007-08). The two-time MCC Harrier of the Year was also an all-conference performer three times (2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08) and team MVP in 2007-08.
On the track, Gaffney was an NAIA national qualifier in the 3,000 meters and distance medley relay. She continues to hold school records in the indoor 3,000 meters (10:42.27) and outdoor 10,000 meters (39:27.36) and ranks in the top 10 in the indoor mile run, indoor 5,000 meters and outdoor 5,000 meters. Gaffney graduated in 2008 with a degree in education.
We were lucky enough to help Katie celebrate Friday evening with her entire family. I couldn’t be happier to see her hard work and SO.MANY.MILES. rewarded.
